Black and White Film Processing

Our Refrema processor is one of the best dip and dunk film processors in the industry.  We can process film sizes including 35mm, 120, 220, 4x5, and 8x10.  If you have an old or odd-sized film, chances are we can come up with a way to run it through our machine.  We use Ilford Ilfotec DD developer, Kodak's Glacial Acetic Acid stop bath, and Ilford 2000RT fixer.  There are two wash cycles, and the final rinse is a dilution of Kodak Photo-Flo 200 solution.  Control strips are run daily to ensure balanced chemistry.

Black and White Custom Printing

We are well known for our high-quality custom printing services!  Our enlarger is an Ilford Multigrade 500 system.  The RC paper processor is a Kreonite ProMate II that can process paper up to 20" wide.  Our fiber prints are processed traditionally in trays, washed for 30 minutes, then hung up to air dry.  We use Ilford 2000RT developer and fixer, and Kodak Indicator Stop Bath.  Our papers are Ilford Multigrade IV glossy and pearl for RC prints and Ilford Multigrade IV glossy and matte for fiber prints.Darkroom appointments are available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Saturday. Stop by anytime we are open (M-F 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. / Sat. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and we will introduce you to the facilities. To be certified to use the space, there is a one-time, $25 orientation fee.

Black and White Darkroom Rental

The space is large enough to accommodate two people comfortably and is equipped with three enlargers. The enlargers can handle negatives from 35mm up to 4x5. One has capabilities for 5x7, and there is a glass plate carrier for odd size film too. Our two most popular enlargers have dichroic mixing heads with digital controls allowing for precision adjustments over contrast and time.

Trays and an archival washer are provided for fiber or RC developing up to 20x24. For RC printing, we feature a light-tight print processor that takes paper up to 16x20. Once the paper is loaded and the lid is shut, you can turn on the lights and four minutes later you have a finished print — developed, washed, and dried.

To be certified to work in our darkroom, there is a one-time $25.00 orientation fee.  We offer two convenient ways to pay for time in the darkroom: either pay as you go or purchase a pre-paid punch card. Pay-as-you-go is $15/hour. Pre-paid punch cards are available for $65 for 5 hours ($12.50/hour) and $100 for 10 hours ($10/hour). The punch cards are stamped in 15-minute increments.
